Create a platonic, and then click make click Structure>Make Editable.



Then, go to Structure - Edit Surface - Matrix Extrude. Use the default setting, except for the steps. Change the amount of steps to 2, you should have an image similar to the one on the left.



The result should be something like the picture beneath.



Create some Objects - Nurbs - Hyper Nurbs and then drag the platonic into the hyper nurbs over in the objects palette.



Now, create a new material of a simple gradient.



Apply the material and render it. Here's what the final image should look like. That's about it, simple and easy.
