A recent survey determined that data loss due to computer errors causes a loss of more than $20 billion to computer users across the world. Another survey concluded that 1 out of every 4 computer users lost vital data resulting in major losses. These figures are an indication of the seriousness of computer errors.

While there are some computer errors that cannot be avoided, many of them can be easily prevented if users have a proper understanding of the causes of PC errors and easy ways to put an end to them.

Common Causes of PC Errors:

You may encounter PC errors due to one of the following common problems:

  • If any computer hardware becomes faulty.

  • One of the required drivers is malfunctioning.

  • There are damaged, corrupt or missing files causing software errors.

  • Conflicts occur between programs running simultaneously.

  • Hard disk errors, such as CRC error or no disk space error that may result from a cluttered hard disk with damaged, fragmented, and corrupt files.

  • Virus or spyware infections.

  • There are obsolete program versions on the system.

Understanding PC errors:

The first step to understand your computer errors is to notice the error messages that are displayed on your computer screen. Some of the error messages are self-explanatory. For example:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Error Code 39)"

This error message is fairly easy to understand. You may need to reinstall or update the driver of the device you are using to resolve this error.

On the other hand, some messages may be difficult to understand for a common computer user like the following error:

ccSvcHst.exe - Application error

The instruction at "0x059a2df" referenced memory at 0x059a2df" the memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the Program.

A good way of understanding PC errors is to perform an internet search for the error and look for the ways to resolve them.

  1. Msvcp71.dll (ormscvr80.dll). These will give your PC a lot of free space and reduce chances of any problems that may arise out of presence of these files.

  2. You need a reliable anti-virus and anti-spyware software. This will protect your PC from external assaults. In order to be completely effective, you must regularly update these tools and schedule regular full system scans.

  3. Install reputable registry cleaner software which will scan, repair, defrag and backup your windows registry. This will prevent bloating and corruption of registry keys. This means a faster PC which is less prone to errors.

  4. Keep your hard drive clean and contiguous. You can use the services of two important system tools that come with your windows operating system to maintain your hard disk. These tools are the Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragment tools.

  5. Keep your computer hardware safe from two dangerous enemies: dust and power surges. While most PC owners are well informed on countering software problems, they tend to ignore potential hardware problems. Cleaning your PC hardware and surrounding area will help prevent PC errors arising due to dust and overheating. Lastly, make sure that you use a surge protector so that your PC is safe from any voltages surges.
