Download the workfiles first
We first created the image in Photoshop, a simple white text on a black background. We chose to save it as a tiff, although you can pretty much use any format, even QuickTime files.
My image is 150 x 35, although I haven't had problems with size, I'm sure it will eat resources the bigger the image is.
For this tutorial we created a new workspace with these settings although you can achieve the same end result if you have the particles set as an operator or a layer in your composite.
The next thing to do is to load the text effects library from the particles tab under library and choose the desired effect. We chose column 01 for this effect.
We used a single point emitter and clicked on the workspace to apply it.
Make sure you have the right particle selected.
Go to down to the shape tab and click on the Import button on the far right.
Once you have located the image you want to use an option panel appears. If you are happy with the image choose ok if not you can crop it by clicking on the crop button and resizing the sliders. Lock will crop the image proportionally and the offset sliders moves the image in the X and Y axes within the crop. If you want to resize it, you can, but it can be only be made smaller, lock has the same function here as in crop.
When you are happy choose ok.
Once the image has been imported click on swap and that's it !!!
Easy wasn't it? now go mad and import other types of files and play with the import options and other particle options.
